FORAGRO (Foro de las Américas para la Investigación y el Desarrollo Tecnológico Agropecuario) convocó a un diálogo virtual para analizar de forma colaborativa las prioridades que deben incorporarse a la agenda hemisférica de IDI, así como para lograr un posicionamiento en el tema, con el objetivo de lograr un aprovechamiento incluyente y equitativo de la agricultura digital, que no deje a nadie por fuera.
FORAGRO (the Forum of the Americas for Agricultural Research and Technological Development) made a call for a virtual dialogue to analyze collaboratively and agree on the priorities that should be incorporated into the hemispheric RDI agenda, to achieve an inclusive and equitable use of digital agriculture, that leaves no one behind.
Este trabajo explora las posibilidades de fortalecimiento de la agricultura mediante tecnologías digitales, en especial de la pequeña agricultura, frecuentemente representada por la agricultura familiar. En el marco de esta iniciativa del Foro Global de Investigación e Innovación Agrícola (GFAR), el Foro de las Américas para la Investigación y el Desarrollo Tecnológico Agrícola (FORAGRO), cuya secretaría se encuentra en el Instituto Interamericano de Cooperación para la Agricultura (IICA), y la Confederación de Organizaciones de Productores Familiares del Mercosur Ampliado (COPROFAM), junto con los aliados internacionales AgGateway y la Iniciativa Global de Datos Abiertos para la Agricultura y la Nutrición (GODAN), el enfoque de colocar a los pequeños productores en el centro del diseño de soluciones digitales se ha denominado “agricultura digital inclusiva” (ADI).
A regional survey was undertaken in October 2021 to gather input from the production units, i.e., the family farming producers in LAC, for the identification of current uses, needs and expectations in terms of digital solutions. It was conducted within the framework of the collective action on inclusive digital transformation of agriculture facilitated by GFAR and implemented in LAC by FORAGRO, in conjunction with IICA and COPROFAM, with international partners AgGateway and GODAN.
This paper explores the possibilities for strengthening agriculture, in particular small agriculture, often represented by family farming, with the use of digital technologies. Within the framework of an initiative of the Global Forum on Agricultural Research and Innovation (GFAR), the Forum of the Americas for Agricultural Research and Technological Development (FORAGRO),with its secretariat at the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), and the Confederation of Family Producer Organizations of the Expanded Mercosur (COPROFAM), in collaboration with international partners AgGateway and Global Open Data for Agriculture and Nutrition (GODAN), the approach of putting small-scale producers at the center of digital solution design has been adopted, called “inclusive digital agriculture” (IDA).
